A manual rivet gun installs blind rivets to fasten overlapping channel-letter and sheet-metal components. It is useful when only the front side of the joint is accessible.
Use a blind rivet whose diameter fits the installed nosepiece and whose grip range covers the combined thickness of the joined materials.
Measure the total thickness of all layers and select a rivet with a grip range that includes that measurement. A rivet that is too short will not clamp correctly, while an excessively long rivet can form a poor joint.
Drill the correct hole, insert the rivet, place the mandrel fully into the matching nosepiece, and squeeze the handles until the mandrel breaks. Keep the tool square to the work during setting.
A mismatched nosepiece, accumulated mandrels, metal debris, or worn jaws can prevent release. Stop using the tool, clear it safely, and clean the gripping mechanism before installing another rivet.
Use the correct hole diameter and rivet grip range, remove burrs, and keep the joined surfaces in full contact while setting the rivet. Replace any rivet that spins or does not clamp the joint firmly.
